Zero Valent Iron-based Permeable Reactive barrier Design, Construction and Performance Monitoring

XCG was retained by Leggett & Platt Inc. (LPI) to provide engineering services in relation to the investigation of soil and groundwater quality and subsequent remediation of a former industrial facility, located at 66 Jutland Road, Etobicoke, Ontario. Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) completed by XCG identified the presence of elevated concentrations of chlorinated volatile organic compounds (CVOCs) within the shallow overburden soil and groundwater at the site. To meet LPI’s needs and to manage potential liabilities related to off-site migration of CVOC-containing groundwater, XCG designed a Daramend-based permeable reactive barrier (PRB) along the east property boundary.

Methane Venting System – Construction Management

Based on our previous work on a commercial property that was next to a historical municipal landfill, the new owner of a retail plaza requested XCG to assist with the implementation of a methane protection system. Due to the close proximity of the old landfill, a condition of development was that full protection from possible methane intrusion was to be provided for any and all buildings constructed.

Landfill Gas and Greenhouse Gas Reporting – Knockholt Sub-Regional Landfill

XCG undertook a Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Assessment and subsequent reporting for the Knockholt Sub-Regional Landfill (Site) as the Site was exceeding the Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) threshold for GHG reporting of 10,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalents (CO2e) per year.

Oshawa Harbour Risk Assessment (2017), City of Oshawa

In the period between 2014 and 2017, XCG was retained by the City of Oshawa to obtain a Record of Site Condition (RSC) for the former Marina Lands and West Wharf Lands located at the southeast corner of Harbour Road and Simcoe Street South (subject site). This former industrial/commercial site is intended to be converted to parkland and therefore triggers the requirement for a RSC.

Landfill Gas System Main Header Extension and Perimeter Road

XCG undertook the design and construction project management of a landfill gas well field and perimeter road expansion project. The project included the detail design of the berm, perimeter road (constructed of native pit run gravel excavated from on-site quarry), landfill gas header extension, and condensate knockout.

Delineation and Remediation of Soil and Groundwater Impacts

XCG was retained by Barnes Group Inc. (BGI) to conduct site assessment and remediation activities at a former automotive component manufacturing facility located at 3100 Mainway, Burlington, Ontario.

Groundwater Remediation and RSC Filing

In 2009, XCG Consulting Limited (XCG) was contracted by Ontario School Boards’ Insurance Exchange (OSBIE) and the Durham District School Board (DDSB) to peer review the investigation and remediation activities at the Sunderland Public School (PS) in Sunderland, Ontario.

Site-Specific Environmental Management Plan and Environmental Monitoring

XCG was retained by Matrix NAC to provide a Site Specific Environmental Management Plan (Environment, Traffic, Ecological, Archaeological) for the Napanee Generating Station (NGS).

Design and Closure Plan, Valemount Regional Landfill

XCG developed the Closure Plan for the Valemount Regional Landfill.

Expansion of Landfill Gas Collection and Flaring System, Phases 1, 2, and 3

XCG was retained in 2009 to undertake the detailed design, tendering, construction oversight and contract administration for Phases 1, 2, and 3 of the landfill gas collection and flaring system at the Tom Howe Landfill.
