Thomas is one of XCG’s Expert People. He’s a Professional Engineer licensed to practice in Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, and Saskatchewan and is designated as a Qualified Person (QP) to conduct Environmental Site Assessments (ESA) as defined by Ontario Regulation 153/04. Thomas is a senior project manager and the ESA Group Leader at XCG where his technical expertise is applied to managing and providing quality assurance reviews of Phase I and Phase II ESAs, site remediation and decommissioning projects at impacted properties.
Thomas has been helping clients solve environmental issues at XCG since 2005. He has deep experience in conducting, coordinating, managing, and reviewing Phase I and Phase II ESAs as well as projects involving delineation and remediation of impacts to soil, surface water, sediment, groundwater, soil vapour, and/or indoor air on properties which require compliance with generic or risk-based, site-specific criteria.
Thomas also has practical experience with small and large scale, multi-year projects on various contaminated properties and facilities, including large, heavy industrial/manufacturing, food processing, metal recycling, transportation (trucking, air, and rail), solid waste management and commercial/residential. He also has technical experience managing the evaluation, design, and implementation of soil, surface water, sediment and groundwater remediation and contaminant management plans based on in-situ and ex-situ technologies. These include permeable reactive barriers (PRBs), in-situ chemical oxidation (ISCO), reductive de-chlorination, pump and treat, soil mixing, enhanced natural attenuation, phytoremediation, and excavation and disposal.
Thomas has managed projects on properties that are impacted with a wide range of contaminants, including heavy metals, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), petroleum hydrocarbons (PHCs), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB), dioxins and furans, pesticides, and asbestos. As a result of his experience, he has prepared expert witness reports and provided expert witness testimony in court with regard to contaminant transport, remedial options, and remedial costs for commercial and industrial properties.
When he’s not working in the field or with a client solving environmental problems, Thomas enjoys the great outdoors on long walks with his dog, backpacking and honing his skills in landscape and nature photography. Thomas is a valued member of the XCG #ExpertPeople team who can answer tough environmental questions and provide clients with the data and analysis they need to help make informed business decisions.
